01 — About

A systems person who likes things to just work.

I'm an IT systems & DevOps generalist who's happiest across the whole stack — from the OS and the network up to the services and the code running on top.

I was always pulled toward IT. While studying Wood Science at Stellenbosch, the computers, networks and servers were the part I couldn't put down — so I moved into infrastructure full time rather than finish the degree.

At Dijiti Solutions I came in as the first dedicated ops hire and built the company's IT, cloud and networking stack from the ground up — then ran it day to day for a 25-person team. I like tracing a problem across layers and joining up systems that need to talk to each other, whether that's AWS, a Proxmox host, a database or a misbehaving DNS resolver.

I'm recently off the back of my time at Dijiti and looking for my next systems, infrastructure or networking role — with the range to take on development work alongside it.

IT Systems & DevOps Lead

Dijiti Solutions · Full-time
  • Built and ran the company's full IT, cloud and networking stack as Dijiti's first dedicated DevOps hire, supporting ~25 staff (6 engineers, leadership and operations).
  • Managed AWS across ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, IAM and VPC — deployments, account administration and ongoing cost optimisation.
  • Administered Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 (provisioning, access, licensing) and managed company domains, cPanel and web hosting.
  • Ran virtualisation for the dev team alongside internal hosting, proxy services and password management; supplied and maintained compute across the business.
  • Set up and maintained PostgreSQL databases and backend services; built internal tooling and automation scripts.
  • Owned reliability — monitoring, backups, access control and incident response — and provided full-suite technical IT support.
  • Expanded into application development alongside the systems role, shipping production code with the engineering team.

Security Camera Installation

Holzbau CPT · Contract, while studying
  • Installed CCTV and security-camera systems end to end — planning camera placement, running and terminating cable, mounting and aligning units, and configuring the recorder and live-view software.
2020

IT Support

Highway Safety Products · Part-time, while studying
  • Provided technical support to staff across day-to-day computer, software and hardware queries.
03 — Technical development

Ethanet — my homelab.

A production-grade home infrastructure I designed, built and run end to end. It's where I learn the things I bring to work — documented as code, zero public ingress, two years uptime.

05 — Off the clock

What I'm into.

Running

Out on the road regularly — it's how I clear my head and reset between deep-focus stretches.

Coffee

A genuine enthusiast — chasing a good cup is half the reason I know every café worth its salt in town.

Building the homelab

Always tinkering — adding a service, tightening the network, or rewriting the bootstrap so the whole thing rebuilds itself.
